Currently, this use is highly investigative and cannot be recommended as routine treatment. On animals which after death may be eaten by vultures or other scavenging birds. Though 20% of patients on longterm treatment experience sideeffects, only 2% have to discontinue the drug, mostly due to gastrointestinal complaints.

The development of ulceration and/or bleeding requires immediate termination of treatment with diclofenac. Most patients receive an ulcerprotective drug as prophylaxis during longterm treatment (misoprostol, ranitidine 150mg at bedtime or omeprazole 20mg at bedtime). Hepatitis may occur rarely without any warning what is voltaren for and may be fatal.



Diclofenac is a weak and reversible inhibitor of thrombocytic aggregation needed for normal coagulation. There is also speculation[by whom? The mechanism is, it is presumed, renal failure, a known sideeffect of diclofenac.
